NIPUN (National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy) is a program launched by the Ministry of Education aimed at strengthening foundational learning for students up to Grade 3. To support this, the Government of India and KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan) have taken several steps from the foundational stage up to Grade 5, such as Vidya Pravesh (school readiness program), improvements in assessment structures, etc., focusing on reading comprehension and basic mathematical skills.
The Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Mission, launched on July 5, 2021, by the Ministry of Education under the NIPUN Bharat Mission, aims to ensure that every child in India attains foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of Grade 3 by 2026-27.
